I must apologize for missing last month's meeting. I had a lot of family issues going on, culminating in a flat out on my back, bout of the flu on the meeting date.
Many thanks to our Secretary, David Swoboda for stepping up without my asking and taking charge of things. I understand I missed a ton of great magic and it was one meeting I really had wanted to participate at with some of my crazy stuff I've made. I'll have to bring those toys of mine to a future meeting.
Well the New Year has now passed and we can look and we can all look forward to fresh ideas and magic in the new year, that, and all the credit card bills that will soon appear like magic at our doorstep!
On to next month's theme...
We are changing up our format with something fresh. The topic will be "Brain Games".
All of magic is about the spectator's mental perception of what we say and do.
What is really happening?
We misdirect the audience, but what is happening at the deeper levels in our brains that allows us to fool and be fooled.
David will provide a video program that explores this point with a special emphasis on magicians and their effects. This program recently aired on the National Geographic Channel and featured magicians David Copperfield and Apollo Robbins.
Following the video presentation, I encourage all of you to bring along and discuss or perform an effect (more if you like), that relies upon optical illusion, and/or unusual types of misdirection, that tricks the brain or a truly confounding puzzle to share.
If all else fails, just bring yourself and ANY magic to share, you are always welcome.
